Following & mute settings

Packr lets you control exactly what you hear about: review the records you follow, dial each conversation up or down with the bell, and choose whether notifications also reach your email. This page is for everyone in a workspace, whether you are a 3PL operator or a brand user.

Who is this for?

Everyone. Following, notification levels, and email forwarding are available to all roles. Follower rules (default followers) are admin-only. You only ever see activity for brands assigned to you.

Overview

There are three controls for managing notifications:

  • Following — the records you follow (orders, tasks, inventory, shipments, and more) generate notifications about activity on them. You review and unfollow them from the Following list.
  • Notification level on a conversation, set with the bellAll messages, Mentions only, or Mute.
  • Forward notifications to my email, a per-workspace switch on your profile.

An admin can set up Follower Rules in Settings -> Company to automatically add people as followers when new records are created. Notification settings are per workspace and per person, so changing yours never affects anyone else.

Review what you follow

Following a record means you get notified when there is new activity on it. To see everything you currently follow and clean up subscriptions you no longer need, open your Following list.

  1. Open the Notifications panel from the notifications bell.
  2. Select the settings control in the panel header to open the Following list.
  3. To stop following an item, select the unfollow control next to it.

The Following list shows each record you follow with its type (such as orders, tasks, inventory, and shipments) and its number, with an unfollow control next to each one. You only ever follow records in brands you have access to.

Set a conversation's notification level

Each conversation (channel or thread) has a bell in its header that sets how much it notifies you. This is a personal setting and only changes notifications for you.

  1. Open the conversation.
  2. Select the bell in the conversation header to open the Notifications menu.
  3. Choose a level:
  4. All messages — notified about every new message. This is the default.
  5. Mentions only — notified only when you are @mentioned.
  6. Mute — no notifications from this conversation.

The bell shows a different icon when a conversation is set to Mentions only or Mute, so you can tell at a glance which conversations are turned down.

Forward notifications to your email

You can get an email copy of every notification you receive in a workspace. This setting lives on your own profile and applies only to the workspace you are currently in.

  1. Open your profile by selecting your avatar in the header.
  2. Find the Notifications card and the Forward notifications to my email switch.
  3. Turn it on to start receiving email copies, or off to stop. The change saves automatically.

Because this is per workspace, you can forward notifications to email in one workspace and leave it off in another. See your profile for more profile settings.

Set follower rules (admin)

Follower rules — sometimes called default followers — automatically add people as followers when a new record is created, so the right people are looped in without anyone having to follow manually. Configuring follower rules is an admin-only task in workspace settings.

  1. Go to Settings -> Company and find the Follower Rules section.
  2. Choose an Entity Type (such as orders, tasks, or shipments).
  3. Choose a Rule for who should automatically follow.
  4. Select Add Rule.

Admin only

Follower rules apply to everyone in the workspace, so only workspace admins should create or remove them.

Each rule shows its entity type, who follows, and its scope (app-wide, workspace-wide, or a specific brand). To remove a rule, select the Remove rule control next to it. Existing followers on past records are not changed when you add or remove a rule.

Mobile push

If you use the Packr mobile app and allow notifications, the same settings drive your push notifications. Muting a conversation or setting it to Mentions only also quiets mobile push for it, so you will not get a phone alert for something you have turned down in the app.

Tips

  • Use Mentions only on busy channels you still want to watch — you stay in the loop without a ping for every message.
  • Check your Following list now and then and unfollow records you no longer need, so your notifications stay focused.
  • Turn on Forward notifications to my email if you are often away from the app and do not want to miss updates.

Common questions

How do I stop getting notified about a channel? Open the conversation, select the bell in its header, and choose Mute to silence it completely, or Mentions only to be notified just when you are @mentioned.

How do I stop following something? Open the Notifications panel from the bell, select the settings control in its header to open the Following list, and select the unfollow control next to the record. You only ever follow records in brands you have access to.

How do I get notifications by email? Open your profile by selecting your avatar in the header, find the Notifications card, and turn on Forward notifications to my email. You will then get an email copy of every notification in that workspace.

What are default followers? Default followers (called Follower Rules in the app) are people automatically added as followers when a new record (such as an order or task) is created, based on rules an admin sets up in Settings -> Company -> Follower Rules. They keep the right people notified without anyone having to follow manually.

Will changing my notification level affect my teammates? No. Notification levels, follows, and email forwarding are personal to you. Default follower rules are the only setting that affects who else is notified.
