Operations

The Operations tab shows how much you ship and what those shipments are like. It covers shipment volume over time, the average items and expected weight per shipment, and how each brand's parcels compare. Use it to spot growing or shrinking accounts, and brands whose orders are unusually heavy or bulky.

Who can see this

You need the View insights permission, which 3PL Admins have by default. People who aren't admins only see the brands assigned to them. See Insights overview.

Pick a period

  • Period — 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or Custom. The tab opens on 30 days. Custom shows a date picker, and the figures change once you pick a range. A range can't be longer than 400 days.
  • Group by — Day, Week, or Month sets the buckets in the trend charts. Weeks start on Monday.

Days are calendar days in UTC, so a day's figures may not line up exactly with midnight where you are. If a long period times out, the tab asks you to try a shorter one.

Headline figures

  • Shipments processed — orders that shipped with a tracking number during the period. An order shipped in several parcels counts once. The dates under the figure show the period.
  • Avg items / shipment — units shipped divided by shipments.
  • Avg weight / shipment — the average expected weight of shipped orders, in pounds. This is the weight your WMS expects for the order, not what the carrier weighed. If some orders have no expected weight, the tile says based on N% of shipments.
  • Avg lb / item — expected weight divided by items.

Volume trend

The Volume trend chart shows shipments per day, week, or month, with a line for each brand.

  • The chart starts with the 6 brands that ship the most. A note under it says how many brands are charted.
  • To add or remove a brand's line, use the swatch beside the brand in the Brands table.
  • To hide a line for now, select the brand in the chart legend.
  • Select Reset to top 6 to go back to the default brands.
  • Select Download CSV to export the trend, with one row per bucket, a total column, and a column for each brand.

Shipment composition

  • Items per shipment groups brands by their average items per shipment, in bands from < 1 to 6+. Each column counts the brands whose average falls in that band. Hover over a column to see the shipment volume behind it.
  • Expected weight per shipment does the same with weight bands in pounds: < 0.5 lb, 0.5–1, 1–2, 2–4, 4–10, and 10+.
  • Parcel shape plots one bubble per brand that has both items and weight data, sized by shipment volume. Clusters show the difference between brands that ship many light parcels and brands that ship fewer heavy ones.

A note under a chart says how many brands had no line-item or expected-weight data in the period.

Brands table

The Brands table lists every brand you can see: Shipments, a small Trend chart, Avg items / shipment, and Avg expected weight (lb). The Total row shows workspace figures.

Items and weight are colored against the workspace average: lighter in green, near average, and heavier in red. Hover over a value to see the comparison. Select Download CSV beside the table heading to export it.

Tips

  • Check Avg weight / shipment alongside its coverage note. A low percentage means many orders don't have an expected weight in your WMS yet.
  • Switch Group by to Week or Month on longer periods to smooth out daily swings.
  • If a brand is missing, check that it's active and mapped to a WMS account. See Brand WMS mapping.

Common questions

What counts as a shipment on Operations? An order that shipped with a tracking number during the period. An order shipped in several parcels counts as one shipment.

Is the weight on Operations the carrier's weight? No. It's the order's expected weight from your WMS, shown in pounds. It isn't the weight the carrier measured.

Why does average weight say "based on N% of shipments"? Some shipped orders don't have an expected weight in your WMS. The average only uses the orders that do, and the note shows what share that is.

How do I add a brand to the volume chart? Select the swatch beside the brand in the Brands table. Select it again to remove the line, or use Reset to top 6 to go back to the default brands.

What do the green and red values in the Operations brand table mean? They compare a brand's average items and expected weight with the workspace average. Green is lighter than average, red is heavier, and uncolored values are near average.

How do I export Operations data? Select Download CSV beside Volume trend for the trend, or beside Brands for the brand table. Both use the period and grouping you've selected.

Why doesn't a day on Operations match my local day? Operations counts calendar days in UTC, so a day's figures run from midnight to midnight UTC.
