Packr Updates

Packr Updates is how the Packr team tells you what is new: an app-wide announcement banner, a Packr Updates button in the sidebar, a Release notes link in the header, and an Updates feed of update articles. This page is for everyone.

Available to all roles

Packr Updates is visible to everyone in your workspace. The banner, the sidebar Packr Updates button, the Release notes header link, and the Updates feed are all open to all roles — there is nothing to configure.

Overview

Packr Updates surfaces product news and new-feature announcements without touching your notification bell. There are four places it shows up:

  • An app-wide announcement banner at the top of the screen for the latest update you have not seen yet.
  • A Packr Updates button in the left sidebar that opens the Updates feed.
  • A Release notes link next to the version number in the header (desktop) that opens the same feed.
  • The Packr Updates feed itself, which lists every update with a "New" dot on anything you have not read.

Each update is a Packr-authored article. Opening one takes you to its full article view in Knowledge.

Read the announcement banner

When the Packr team publishes an update you have not seen, a full-width banner appears at the top of the app, labeled New update with the update's title.

  1. Look for the New update banner pinned above the page header.
  2. Select Read (or click anywhere on the banner) to open the full update article. This also marks the update as seen, and the banner disappears.
  3. To dismiss the banner without reading, select the X on the right. Dismissing also marks the update as seen, so the banner will not return for that update.

Note

The banner only ever shows the single most recent update you have not seen. Once you read or dismiss it, the banner goes away until the next new update is published.

Open the Packr Updates feed

The Packr Updates feed lists every update, newest first, so you can catch up on anything you missed.

  1. In the left sidebar, near the bottom above the workspace switcher, select Packr Updates.
  2. The Packr Updates window opens with a list of updates. Each row shows a title and how long ago it was posted.
  3. A "New" dot appears next to any update you have not read yet.
  4. Select an update to open its full article. This marks that update as seen and clears its "New" dot.

If there are no updates, the feed shows No updates yet with the note that product news and announcements from the Packr team will show up there.

Open Release notes from the header

On desktop, the header shows the current app version with a Release notes link next to it. This is a shortcut to the same Updates feed.

  1. In the top header, find the version label (for example, v followed by the version number).
  2. Select Release notes (hover text reads "What's new in Packr").
  3. The Packr Updates feed opens, the same one the sidebar Packr Updates button opens.

Note

The Release notes link lives in the desktop header. On mobile the app uses a compact header, so reach the feed from the Packr Updates button in the sidebar instead.

Tips

  • Packr Updates is separate from your notifications. New updates never add to the bell's unread count, so reading or ignoring an update does not affect your activity inbox.
  • The Release notes header link and the sidebar Packr Updates button open the exact same feed, so use whichever is closer.
  • Opening an update from the banner or the feed takes you to its full article view, where you can read the complete announcement.

Common questions

Where do I see what is new in Packr? Watch for the New update banner at the top of the app, or open the feed any time from the Packr Updates button in the sidebar or the Release notes link in the header.

What are Packr Updates? Packr Updates are product news and new-feature announcements published by the Packr team. Each update is a full article you can open and read; the latest unseen one is highlighted in the top banner.

How do I mark an update as read? Open it from the banner or the feed, or dismiss the banner with the X. Both reading and dismissing mark the update as seen and clear its "New" dot.

Why did the announcement banner disappear? The banner shows only your latest unseen update. Once you read it or dismiss it, the banner hides until the next new update is published. You can still find past updates in the Packr Updates feed.

Where do updates open when I click them? Each update opens as a full article in Knowledge. See Context articles for how article views work.
