Creating & assigning tasks

Tasks (sometimes called tickets or to-dos) are how you track work in Packr and hand it off to teammates. This page shows everyone — 3PL operators and brand users — how to create a task, fill in its details, and assign it to people.

Who can use this

Creating tasks is available to all roles that have the create-tasks permission. The Create task (+) buttons appear only when your role includes that permission; ask a workspace admin if you don't see them.

Overview

You can create a task from several places in Packr:

  • The Create (+) menu in the top header, from any screen.
  • The Tasks page, using the quick-create row or the full form.
  • The Brand Work Desk, in the Open Tasks section of a brand.
  • A chat message, where Pax (Packr AI) can draft a title and description for you.

Every task needs a Title and a Brand (shown on some screens as the brand's Group). You can also set a due date, priority, assignees, and tags. Creating tasks requires the create-tasks permission, so the create buttons appear only for roles that have it.

Create a task from the Create menu

The Create menu in the top header is the fastest way to add a task from anywhere in Packr.

  1. In the top header, select the Create button (the + icon).
  2. Choose Task from the menu.
  3. The Create New Task form opens. Enter a Title (required).
  4. Fill in any other details — description, due date, priority, brand, assignees, tags.
  5. Select Create Task.

The Create menu also lets you add a User, Order, or Inbound shipment — choose Task for a task.

Create a task from the Tasks page

The Tasks page (in the left sidebar under Tasks) has a built-in quick-create row for adding tasks fast.

  1. Open Tasks from the sidebar.
  2. Select the Create task (+) button at the top of the list.
  3. A New task row appears. Type the task into What needs to be done?
  4. Press Enter to create the task, or fill in the full form for more detail.

The quick-create row creates a task with default priority and the page's current view filters. To set assignees, tags, or attachments, use the full Create New Task form instead.

Create a task from the Brand Work Desk

The Brand Work Desk (its nav label is Home) is where you work a single brand. Tasks created here are pre-filled with that brand.

  1. Open the Brand Work Desk for a brand.
  2. Find the Open Tasks section and expand it.
  3. Select the + button on the Open Tasks header.
  4. Type the task into What needs to be done? and press Enter.

Because you are already inside a brand, the task is automatically tied to that brand — you do not have to pick it.

Set the task details

The Create New Task form lets you set everything about a task before you create it.

  • Title (required) — a short summary of the work.
  • Description — fuller context, instructions, or links.
  • Due Date — pick a date with the date picker.
  • PriorityLow, Medium, High, or Urgent. New tasks default to Medium.
  • Brand (required) — the brand the task belongs to. You can only pick brands assigned to you.
  • Tags — labels for grouping and filtering (see "Add tags" below).
  • Comments — add a note to the task as you create it.
  • Attachments — attach files with Add Attachment.

Select Create Task to save, or Cancel to discard.

Assign a task to people

You assign a task to one or more teammates so they know it is theirs. You can do this while creating the task.

  1. In the Create New Task form, find the Assigned Users section.
  2. Select Add User.
  3. In the Select User list, choose the person you want to assign.
  4. Repeat Add User to add more assignees.
  5. To remove someone, select the x on their chip.

The Select User list is scoped to the brand you chose, so pick the Brand first to see the right people. Assignees are notified and the task shows up in their task lists.

Add tags

Tags are labels that help you group and filter tasks later.

  1. In the Create New Task form, go to the Tags section and select Add Tag.
  2. In the Select Tag list, choose an existing tag, or select Create new tag to make a new one.
  3. To create a new tag, enter a name and select Create.
  4. To remove a tag, select the x next to it.

Let Pax suggest a task from a conversation

Packr AI (Pax) can draft a task Title and Description for you from a quick note, so you do not have to write them by hand.

From the quick-create row in the Open Tasks section of the Brand Work Desk:

  1. Type the gist of the task into What needs to be done?
  2. Press Shift + Enter (on desktop), or use the create button on mobile and choose Create with AI.
  3. Pax drafts a suggested title and description and opens the Create New Task form pre-filled.
  4. Review and edit the draft, then select Create Task.

You can also turn a chat message into a task: open the Create task action on a message. Pax reads the message, drafts a title, and opens the Create New Task form so you can pick the brand and confirm the details. This action appears for anyone whose role has the create-tasks permission — the same permission the Create task (+) buttons use.

Pax's suggestions are always a starting point — nothing is saved until you review the draft and select Create Task.

Tips

  • Set the Brand before adding assignees, so the Select User list shows the right people.
  • Use the Create (+) header menu when you are in the middle of something else — it works from any screen.
  • Use the global search (the Search bar or ⌘K) to find and open an existing task rather than create a duplicate.

Common questions

How do I create a task? Select the Create (+) button in the top header and choose Task, or open the Tasks page and select the Create task (+) button. Enter a Title, pick a Brand, fill in any other details, and select Create Task.

How do I assign a task to someone? In the Create New Task form, go to Assigned Users, select Add User, and pick a person from the Select User list. Pick the Brand first, since the list is scoped to that brand. You can add more than one assignee.

Can Packr suggest a task for me? Yes. In the Open Tasks quick-create row on the Brand Work Desk, type the gist and press Shift + Enter (or choose Create with AI on mobile) to have Pax draft a title and description. You can also use the Create task action on a chat message. You always review the draft before it is saved.

Why don't I see a Create task button? Creating tasks requires the create-tasks permission. If the button is missing, your role does not have it — ask a workspace admin to update your role and permissions.

Which brand should I pick? Choose the brand the work belongs to. You can only select brands assigned to you, and the brand controls who appears in the Select User list when you assign the task.
